對 話
Jimmy:It』s raining cats and dogs. Did you bring in the books from outside?
Steve:No, I just left them there.
Jimmy:Steve, are you crazy? They will be ruined!
Steve:Those books were so boring.I』d rather watch TV.
Jimmy:We used to have a TV, remember?
Steve:Oh, yeah. Um...
Jimmy:You threw it in the river because there were too many commercials, right?
Steve:Okay, maybe I should have thought twice about that.
日常口語也常用「It』s pouring with rain.」及「It』s coming down in buckets.」
It』s raining cats and dogs outside, and that』s why I look like a drowned rat.(現在外頭雨下超大的,那正是我看起來像隻落湯雞的原因。)
★ruin vt. 破壞╱n.
例:The sudden downpour ruined our entire trip.(突如其來的大雨讓我們的旅程全泡湯了。)
★downpour n.
The once splendid palace now lay in ruins.(這座曾經光輝奪目的皇宮現在已成一片廢墟。)
